Forgot the pill ... what to do now?

Posted on: October 31, 2019

Messed up to take your contraception pill? Don’t beat yourself up. Sometimes life can be busy and you’re definitely not the first girl to forget from time to time. But if you’re not ready for a baby, keep calm, and check out your next steps:

1. Find out what pill you’re on. While there are many different contraceptive pills on the market, they’re actually just two basic types: the combined pill (contains estrogen and progestin) and the progestin-only pill (often called the mini pill).

2. If you’re on the combined pill and you took your last pill less than 48 hours ago, you might be able to simply take it now.

Find out what to do exactly by using our ‘What to do if I forgot to take my pill’ tool!

3. If you’re on the mini-pill or you took your combined pill more than 48 hours ago, you can use emergency contraception (often called the morning after pill).
